Karstadt is the best department store I have ever been too, and I live near NYC. Hamburg's shopping district is unbelievable. Clean, beautiful, quiet, reasonably priced, and NO CRIME. Wake up America.
The downtown Karstadt store complex (on Moenkebergstrasse) always was and definitely still is the best place to shop in all of Hamburg. To go one step further, it is one of the top shopping addresses in all of Europe! Here you'll find almost everything you can imagine throughout the year at very reasonable prices. It is one of the reasons why I love to return to beautiful Hamburg. Try it yourself, you won't be disappointed!
I visited the Karstadt about 24 years ago and saw the best Christmas window displays I have ever seen.Each window had a Santa Claus form various countries around the world and it was a magical sight for children.
