Frankenstein Castle

Mary Shelly probably did not even know about the little village of Frankenstein in the Palatinate when she wrote her classic horror story. Still, a trip to Frankenstein’s castle does have good retelling value. Getting to the ruined red castle is a strenuous uphill walk. The best starting point is at the Evangelical church, parking available, and then head up along the small path behind the church. Only German speaking tours available; 14km from Kaiserslautern.

It is quite a walk but well worth it in the late spring and summer months when the weather is more suited for outdoor activities. But nonetheless, still beautiful in the snow covered winter. Dispite the castle being mostly ruins, the way it is built into the hill itself is a marvel of mason work in the day and age it was constructed. Pictures galor.
