The day before the World Cup starts sees the re-opening of the renovated Fruchthalle with the last concert of the 05/06 season of the Rhineland Palatinate State Philharmonic. In 1843, Ludwig, King of Bavaria laid the cornerstone of the market hall and granary which was designed by August von Voit in the style of the Palazzo Medici in Florence and completed in 1846. Each floor has differing windows and the ground floor has portals and windows alternating. Now used mostly for musical events, although some exhibitions, graduations and markets are held here too.
