The location on a shady square behind the Frauenkirche is perhaps appropriate considering the beer that's served in this lively local favourite. The monks of the Andechs cloister just outside the city have been producing one of Germany's strongest beers, a double bock, since the 14th century. It's now consumed in large quantities by the patrons of this restaurant, which could explain the heavenly grins on their faces and the loud conversations. Great for Bavarian cuisine too.

This is all true, and if you like it, the short distance to the actual Andechs cloister is well worth your time. There is a great big restaurant on the site of the cloister that offers typical Bavarian cuisine. However, drink and food aside, the chapel, which is open to the public, is one of the best examples of the Baroque styles in this part of Germany - - absolutely fantastic!
