Löwenbräu

Löwenbräu is perhaps the most famous Bavarian brewery internationally, but is not so highly regarded in Munich. It was founded in 1324. The famous pub, Zur Löwen, began serving Löwenbräu beer in 1383 and it became a famous export beer in the 19th century. Unfortunately, due to building work, the brewery doesn't offer tours right now - but they still offer beer.

it's a shame they don't give tours anymore. Went to Munich many times, and went on a tour of Lowenbrau in Octorber 1976. back then they gave tours 1 day a week, which was Tuesday, to the first 50 people to show up. (and you had to get there early). You toured the factory, for about an hour. the guides then took you up to the top floor of the plant, where you could drink beer, and they had a great spread of food out to eat, all for free.

Lowenbrau is one of my favorite beers. It is a quality beer that doesn't have the outrageous price tag of other German beers. I will keep enjoying Lowenbrau for as long as I live.
