What started in 1996 as a party by a small rabble of Irish expats, now has turned into a huge party and parade of 15,000 participants and spectators.
St. Patricks Day in Munich is one of the biggest parades in Europe. Nowadays, it is celebrated over the three-day weekend preceding the official holiday on March 17.
Every Irish bar in town will be crammed with people downing Guinness. Major events this year include:
March 12 Parade princess competition in Bondi Australian pub, 20:00, admission free.
Celtic Rock Spectacle, Festival Hall, Kultfabrik (see Nightlife). Three live bands and after-show party. 20:00. Admission €12.50.
March 13 Night of the Celts. Festival Hall, Kult Fabrik. Music and dance from Ireland, Scotland, and Galicia. 20:00. Admission €12.50.

The Parade; it includes Irish bands and dance groups, sport and Irish interest groups. It begins at the Deutsche Museum, going via Ludwigsbrücke, Rosenheimerstraße, Friedenstraße to Grafingerstraße, ending up on the Kultfabrik grounds. There, the
After-Parade Party includes live Irish bands, marching bands and children’s entertainment. The Parade begins at 15:00; after-Parade party at 16:00. Admission is free.
