This historic Observatory, the first of its kind in Greece and throughout the Balkans, was designed by renowned architect Theophile Hansen and was inaugurated in 1842. It has a unique cross-shaped structure, that points to the four points of the horizon, while its resplendent golden dome can be seen gleaming in the Athens sky from quite a distance.
