Many people fear that travel and tourism will be among the first things we’ll have to cut back in order to survive the economic crisis looming the world over.
However, travel is a neccesity and not a luxury for many of us and in the era of wild consumerism in which we live in, there is a million things to cut before travel.
To start with, in order to make your stay a little less expensive we have prepared a few tips on some of the things you can enjoy in Athens for free or very little.
On the other hand of course, different people have different needs, and if you are not troubled by the crisis in the slightest you can find some ideas on how to splurge in our ‘Quick Picks’ pages which couples, families, shoppers and ‘off-the-beaten-track’ types will also find useful.
As in every issue, there is extensive cultural coverage with the best performances and events in the city, and of course, a long list with establishments and places that we’d happily recommend to a foreign friend visiting Athens. This is our basic criterion when we decide on what to recommend, (and it also answers the question of some restaurant owners and hotel managers who call us asking why their businesses are not included in the guide): If it ain’t good enough for our friends, it ain’t good enough for our readers.
Of course in a large metropolis like Athens there are always establisments worth recommending that escape our attention. This is our job and that’s what we constantly do around Europe: being on the look out, so you don’t have to.
Browse the guide online, or download your free PDF copy here. For the print version, look out for it at newsstands across Athens, and in all fine Athens hotels.
