Behind the 1960s-relic neon sign is this fancy find, where dishes are whisked out from under silver domes and where the waiters delight in dramatic flourishes. Befitting its name, Kacsa specialises in duck dishes, but there are plenty of other options. A piano/violin combo entertains in the evenings.

This is one of Budapest's absolutely best restaurants. Unlikely location and my hotel's recommendation made me skeptical. But the food was superb. Better than Gundel! The crispy duck was the best I've ever had. And the service was great. On my last three-day stay in Budapest, we ate at Kacsa twice.
