Kárpátia

This Transylvanian restaurant in the heart of Pest has an interior of Byzantine ornateness, plus a charming marquee for outdoors dining. The menu includes a tempting range of 'forgotten delicacies,' with lamb, veal, game, and poultry dishes made according to medieval recipes. There is also spirited Gypsy dancing, musicians to serenade you at your table - and a considerable wine list.

This restaurant is a tourist trap. The food was ordinary, reheated, with paprika everywhere, even in pumpkin creme soup. The somelier no idea about wines except how to open them. The waiter drank from the wine glasses he later served to his guests (our table was next to the wine rack). The gipsy band good, but a bit intrusive, visits each and every table for a tip and to sell their CD for €20.The room decoration and the fresh bread are pros.
