Leo Burdocks

This has been a local institution since 1913. Just opposite Christ Church Cathedral this famous fish and chip shop is always busy. Fresh fish, tasty batter and good portions make this a classic so popular they've opened sit down restaurants in other locations. Many famous faces have popped by for a portion and become immortalised in Burdock's Hall of Fame. And if the grub's good enough for Tom Cruise, who are we to argue?

They are very friendly, but still their fish and chips are cooked in lard - ie beef dripping. I find this pretty disgusting (the chips ain't vegetarian because of this). In the UK there are some seriously good fish and chip shops and they all cook in ground nut oil. We struggle in this country with gourmet fish and chips for some reason, despite being an island nation. Come to think of it, we generally struggle with quality food at good prices compared to many other countries.
