Kalashnikovv Gallery

  72 6th St, Parkhurst ,   Rosebank & The Parks          +27 73 124 8183     15 Mar 2024

An exciting gallery space that showcases art from a range of disciplines including street art and graffiti as well as digital art. There's often a focus on work that also evokes socio-political engagement, particularly within a South African context. This is a cutting-edge and off-beat space that is known particularly for representing young and emerging artists, and its exhibitions openings and parties that attract Joburg's coolest kids.

Not shy of representing artists whose work is shocking to more mainstream audiences, among the gallery's more notorious exhibitions was a show by the celebrated yet controversial artist Ayanda Mabulu, who hosted a ritual lamb slaughter at his opening night.

The gallery also has a satellite collaborative project space in Parkhurst, the p72 Projects space that shares a home with the pan-African Guns & Rain gallery.
