Vilnius-born Danielius Dolskis (1891-1931) was a Lithuanian Jewish singer of some note and importance who remains loved by the Lithuanians for choosing to sing many of his most popular songs in the Lithuanian language. After a performance in December 1931, Dolskis drank some cold beer and was struck down with a severe attack of pneumonia that was to kill him several days later. His likeness, which somewhat strangely depicts the singer with his mouth closed, usually stands close to the fountain near to the corner of Laisvės and Daukanto, although at the moment he’s not there due to reconstruction work currently taking place in the area.
