Gagi Café

A dazzlingly modern three-storey venue with food served on all floors, and plenty of terraces to enjoy the sun. The menu includes fresh calamari, frogs' legs and delicious home made cheese cake. The piano is tinkled on Thursday and Saturday.

Dear Tim, from our family-wise professional view, if a customer is not happy with our service, then he/she is not required to pay – this is the rule number one that we have always used. We are happy that you took the time to criticize us and we will try to work to improve based on your comments. Other than other places, we learn from criticism. We do hope you will come back as our family would like to invite you for a free dinner. Regards, Gagi Café.

I was very disappointed by my experience at Gagi Cafe. The venue looks promising, everything looks modern, well maintained and well-thought out. But despite the fact that there are three floors, they put dinner guests and bar goers together and the lay-out has the tables so close that even the waiters struggle to get to certain tables. The menu is about 10 pages but ask a waiter for advice and you'll get the answer "Everything is our best". I settled on a small meze starter, followed by a risotto with mozzarella, Gorgonzola and cherry tomatoes. The uninspiring meze was an  mountain of mediocre dried sausage, ham, two types of boring cheese and no bread. The waiter was rude when I didn't finish it. The risotto main course was rice (Indian rice, not risotto!) boiled in water rather than in stock, with chunks of mozzarella and Gorgonzola and cherry tomatoes on top. Regarding service, the waiters had somehow perfected the undesirable combination of inattentiveness and hovering. Acknowledgement of your order comes in the form of brusque repetition of anything you say. I found this place an utter disaster and won't be back.

EDITOR: We revisited Gagi Cafe to see for ourselves and had a good experience, a very nice meal (well-prepared medium steak with a nice sauce) and a tasty dessert. We fully agree the smoking near diners is very annoying - but that's why the cafe is not awarded a 'non-smoking' symbol.
