This year-round haunted house just off of the market square takes you on a terrifying tour through a nightmare gallery of sickening situations and encroaching peril. Participants must choose a 'pain level' (which basically determines how much touching you are comfortable with allowing), then work together to make their way through 12 rooms (most of which are locked and you must find a key to free yourself and escape) of a creepy ramshackle apartment full of blood-spattered beds, hacked-off limbs, moaning invalids and reaching hands, some armed with stun guns (if you choose maximum pain). This isn't a campy, Hollywood creature-feature brand of horror, but a gruesome asylum full of tortured patients, and twisted tenants; the scares are less of the pop-and-shock variety, and more effecting of psychological dread as you frantically fumble your way forward knowing that terrifying shadows are closing in on you from all sides. Incredibly well-done and effectively horrifying, as soon as you enter you just want to make it to the end. Doing so takes about 25-35mins, and participants must be at least 14 years old. The best way to arrange a visit is to reserve online or call in advance. Discreetly hidden through a passageway off the main street, past a strip club, and up a creepy set of stairs on the first floor, visit if you dare.

Seattle It was Halloween, and I took my 13-year-old daughter, who is rather sensitive towards this kind of thing. First of all, the place was busy and we had to come back later after reserving a time. It looked as if we were making a terrible mistake after 3 20-year-old English girls came out with wet pants telling us not to go in; they seemed genuinely scared, but also exhilarated. Next was a group of 16-year-old Polish boys cursing profusely and out of breath. I wasn't really sure what to do, but my daughter was determined to see it through. We got grouped with some strangers, all of whom proved to be very brave, and managed to make it through without too much screaming. My daughter was proud of herself. I'm not sure if the performers were worn out from a busy day of non-stop scaring people, but I went in expecting it to be worse in terms of fright factor. We seemed to get out easy compared to the other people we saw coming out.
The description here of the experience is pretty accurate - it's very well-done and a great thrill for horror fans. The building it's in is in terrible shape, which creeps you out before you even begin. The whole thing is very unnerving. I'd recommend it and so would my daughter. Just the right level of terror I'd say.
