Restauracja w Hotelu Francuskim

Dingy, deliberately unfinished walls contrast with the olde-world, over-the-top service of white suit-jacketed gentlemen who serve everything at your table, even preparing some of it in front of you (like the laborious mincing of the steak tartare), all while a pianist tickles ivories in the corner. As such, you'll get a real kick out of dining here, and the 'Obiad Dnia' (Dinner of the Day, served 13:00 - 20:00) is a fantastic opportunity to experience Francuski's high society inter-war elegance for a shocking 18zł (33zł on Sundays, when it includes a glass of wine). We love it.

The 20zl 'Espresso Lunch' I had here is, quite simply, the best value meal I have ever had in my life. My three-course set menu was served to me at my table by white-jacketed waiters and the chef himself. I had vegetable soup, beef goulash with noodles & pickled cucumber, a chocolate bombe dessert and a glass of cordial for an unbelievable 20zl/£3.96. Yes, that's right, formal dining for three pounds and ninety-six pence. Atmosphere wise this is no dingy den either. On the day I visited a fellow diner arrived with his wife in a Ferrari FF and the restaurant itself, and the hotel it is located in, is owned by the celebrity Polish chef Adam Gessler who also has restaurants in London and Warsaw. The Espresso menu changes daily and each day's offer is posted on Facebook and outside the hotel entrance. There is also an a la carte menu available for those wishing to pay more normal prices for their food!
