Aspazija's House [Aspazijas māja]

One of Latvia’s most beloved female authors, who penned both poems and plays, Aspazija was also the wife of Latvia’s most important literary figure, Rainis. She was an outspoken defender of women’s rights and wrote for the renegade publication Dienas Lapa while her husband was imprisoned in a Russian prison for being the editor of the same publication. Both actively took part in the 1905 Revolution and later fled to Switzerland to avoid reprisals for their involvement in the failed movement. They returned to Latvia in 1920 and helped in the creation of the new Latvian Republic. Aspazija spent her last days in this beautiful wooden building, which is a now a museum dedicated to her remarkable life.

Admission:0.80Ls.
