Riga | Food & Drink | Chinese

Polite wait staff in embroidered silk shirts promptly serve generous portions of delicious Chinese dishes to their patrons among buddhas, dragons and hanging lanterns. More exotic and slightly more expensive cuisine includes hot pots and platters of shark steak or stuffed lamb. If you’d like [...]

Not unlike the centrally located buffet in the Valdemāra Centre (the owners are related), this Chinese cafeteria offers fried noodles and rice, tasty sweet and sour pork, stir-fried green beans in garlic sauce and other typical staples. [...]

Because the food is just a few degrees from true Chinese, imported Asian music videos and the red lanterns help to create that Far Eastern feeling. A good budget buffet is on until the evening with half and full servings available. If explained well enough, a dish missing from the dinner menu can be improvised by the staff. [...]

When one considers its odd surroundings in blue-collar suburbia, this upmarket elegant restaurant may well appear to be a mythical paradise lost among the housing blocks. The owners haven’t skimped on the decorations, but the real reason to come is for surprisingly good cuisine, which the group of Chinese businessmen at the next table seemed to enjoy – an excellent sign. Unfortunately, no dim-sum menu, but it does offer lychees for desert. Take tram N°6 from Barona to the Džutas stop and go right on Džutas to Brīvības. [...]
