This trendy local chain of espresso bars once looked poised to conquer the city, with its fancy drinks, pastries and (gasp!) carry out cups. Perhaps its the fact that stronger competition has entered the arena, but the once mighty Nation seems to be on the decline. Great for snacks and coffee on the run though. [...]

This tiny café tucked away on Old Riga’s most charming street produces some of the city’s most delicious pastries. Order a marzipan chocolate, a piece of egg liquor cake or a slice of the best pecan pie we’ve had in a long time and wash it down with an affordably priced cappuccino or aromatic tea. Although the first room is nothing to brag about, the glass atrium in back offers a small coy pond and views of the ivy-covered walls of the surrounding medieval courtyard.
