If the giant wine casks on Old Riga’s narrowest street don’t get your attention, the people in funny costumes certainly will. The city’s only authentic medieval restaurant is already a hit with locals and tourists alike and with good reason. The candlelit cellar, already mentioned in ancient writings as early as 1293, was once used for special events by the town hall. Today it serves only food available hundreds of years ago, hence the absence of potatoes and tomatoes. Giant portions of delicious cuisine including pork, wild game and local fish are available as well as unique drinks that once graced the tables of both nobles and peasants.Rozengrāls comments

UNREAL... everything was perfect... really felt like I had stepped back in time... a must for everyone... pleasant staff, nice beer, fantastic decor, even down to the well, and the weight behind loo door to keep it closed... absolutely fab.... - 07

You´d like to travel back in time? Maybe about 372 years? Just step down into the dark vaulted cellars of the Rozengrals. The ambience is really great. The room enlighted with candles, equipped with dark wooden chairs and tables and some medieval "equipment" on the walls. All the staff dressed in authentic clothes, we felt like aliens in another century. Life seemed to be hard - no smiling, no laughing, but, after all, professional service. The dishes were great, the beer was tasty and the concept of paper-money or even "plastic" money was no witchcraft to them. We really enjoyed it. No fear - 21st century is just back upstairs!
