One of Latvia's largest hotels, this immense building is located on the edge of Old Riga opposite the opera house. Although its labyrinthine hallways and large empty spaces still give off that slightly Soviet vibe, you couldn’t pick a more central location. An upmarket restaurant, casino, currency exchange and business centre are also available. Avoid the cabs outside at all costs.
