Kūkotava

A sleek grey and beige interior where soothing jazz accompanies your cake, pastry, pie or chocolate might just be a good place to ease into your day. Enjoy a cup of tea or a cappuccino while watching staff in chef’s hats wield rolling pins and kneed dough behind the counter in the open-plan kitchen. Kūkotava (koo-ko-ta-va), or a place where cakes are baked and sold, also sports a cuckoo clock. Get it?

Well... I tried to hold my comments after first visit but now I guess this is not a single occasion rather a system. On one side you get really nice treats - from local classic like cinnamon buns to Pavlova cake. They are really well made and you could feel quality ingredients used. Now they have a small variety of home-made ice creams which I would certainly recommend to try - creamy rich and sinfully delicious. But now for the negative side. Yes the offer is delicious and the place itself is cosy and nice. But the serving staff is beyond critics. Two young ladies standing and the counter but totally unable to serve customers. Starting with the fact that they just don't know where product is located in their fancy touch screen cash register. So one takes her time searching the asks the other one and they BOTH start searching. Of course the line keeps growing. As I was waiting for my order a lady from the customers already served came back and said that she's been charged too much because they punched in the wrong salad. Was she addressed? No. She was already enjoying her cup of tea and agreed to wait for someone to come to clear up the situation. Of course no one bothered doing it. And I just happen to overhear a conversation of these young ladies - "Did someone go and talk with her?" "Well she should stay in line and wait for her turn." Excuse me? The person was already served and doesn't need to wait another line to get you to clear up the situation you messed up. Moreover the owner of the place was browsing in the background and overlooking the situation without doing a single thing. This is what I call an excellent place being killed by terrible attitude.
