Unlike many other European cities, Riga has no landmark restaurants or famous nightclubs like the Hofbräuhaus in Munich or the Moulin Rouge in Paris that have been entertaining people for generations. The communists weren’t big on private enterprise or decadence. But this new restaurant, appropriately located in a historic building in the Vērmanes Park, brings back the city’s heydays of the 1930s. European cuisine prepared according to recipes popular at the time and evening musical performances paying tribute to Edith Piaf dazzle crowds looking for a little nostalgia and elegance. Free live jazz sessions are available every Thursday at 19:00 and a big brunch can be had every Sunday from 11:00 - 16:00.
