After opening up pizzerias, pubs and the renowned Charlestons restaurant, Canadian-Latvian chef and TV celebrity Elmārs Tannis has gone back to basics with this small, family-run bistro. He mans the kitchen himself using only fresh ingredients in his ever-changing menu of culinary creations that place an emphasis on that most enigmatic of basic tastes – umami – while his charming wife often greets guests at the door. The interior is stylish and minimalistic punctuated with a few design accents on its exposed brick walls. We had a delicious heirloom tomato salad and a spicy Vietnamese pho soup, but only Chef Tannis knows what will be on offer when you drop by.
