Retreat from the bustle of street of vendors and head into a historic house where tranquillity rules. Specialities like lasagne and gnocchi will make you wish you had an Italian grandmother to prepare them for you all the time. The congenial wait staff is much less intrusive than she would be, and won't tell you that you look too thin. Main courses will definitely cost you, but cheaper lunch specials are also available.

Frozen processed lasagne presented as home made. Over priced garbage. Very disappointing.
As a regular reader of the In Your Pocket guides, I'm sorry to say that this review has gone disastrously wrong and makes me wonder just how objective these reviews really are. 1739 is simply the worst tourist rip-off restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. The waitresses were not particularly congenial and were dressed in attire more suitable for one of the seedy strip joints in town than for a supposedly nice restaurant. The food was abysmal and over-priced. On a visit to the toilet one has the misfortune of actually getting a look at the kitchen which looked far from clean and was frankly chaotic.I cannot stress how disappointing this place was and the looks on the faces of the other guests there suggests we were not alone.Avoid at all costs.
