Located in an ancient vaulted candlelit brick cellar underneath the Small Guild hall on Līvu Square, this medieval-style restaurant offers European and international cuisine as well as some great Latvian dishes like blood sausage with boiled pearl barley, herring with potatoes, honey-glazed pork knuckle and local trout. You can also order one of three interesting ‘medieval’ beers spiced with ginger, honey or cinnamon and an impressive wine list is also available.

We had a very poor experience here on a recent visit to Riga. The service was dreadfully slow. We got our drinks quickly but waited for 45 minutes before even any bread arrived and another 15 minutes for the starters. The main courses were meagre. The pork knuckle was just two smallish slices. The much-vaunted ginger beer was very ordinary (and the only beer I had in Riga that was less than excellent). The prices were not cheap - very poor value.
