If you’re envisioning an upmarket Madrid restaurant where the suckling pig is so soft the maitre d’ can cut it with a plate then think again. This neighbourhood café serves tasty peasant food for the common man, which is delivered to your table by its Spanish chef. You can sample dozens of olive, cheese, stuffed pepper and chorizo tapas or try the day’s specials, which won’t disappoint. The Cēsu beer on draught is almost tempting at only 0.95Ls, but we recommend the even cheaper Kalimotxo (iced red wine and cola) or Kalimotxo blanco (iced white wine and Sprite), which the waitress assured us was a student favourite.
