Built in 1906, this brick structure was once a synagogue for a thriving Jewish community. During the Nazi occupation of Latvia it was set on fire with hundreds of Jews inside. The current building is home to the Shamir Jewish Religious Community as well as the Latvian Business College. A granite plaque in Latvian and Hebrew reminds passers-by of its tragic history.
