Iveta Gražule, the museum’s owner and curator, began collecting images of the sun with the purchase of a silver necklace ornament in Portugal in 1999. Over the years her collection grew so large that she finally decided to open a museum to house it. View over 350 porcelain, metal, iron, wood, papier-mâché, coconut and glass wall decorations of the sun from 43 countries and six continents at Europe’s only sun museum. You can also paint your own plaster sun in the workshop, which is included in the price of admission. Not surprisingly, the collection keeps growing as visitors donate their own sun mirrors, clocks, plates and ceremonial masks from around the globe.
Admission: adults 2.50Ls, children 7 and under free.

This was a big surprise and true discovery for me in Riga. First you come into a shop full of sun and yellow colors everywhere which turns out to be only an addition to the actual Sun Museum exposing two unique collections. And there is a workshop as well which is not an optional activity but "must do it" if you are there. The first thing that came to my mind - it`s for children! But actually it was so fun, I mean for that comparatively little price I got such an emotions! Location, admission fees, staff and mood - all five stars!
Very friendly, welcoming staff, and great value for money. We got a tour from a FANTASTIC guide whose English was excellent and he really knew how to engage a crowd! The exhibition itself is really interesting but watch out for the piece of erotica at the end! Best of all was the free paint your own sun activity - you don't get much for free these days. A must do activity, especially on a rainy afternoon in Riga!
