KGB Victims’ Memorial

KGB Victims’ Memorial
Surrounded as they are by a cocktail bar, a coffee shop and a striptease club, one could hardly guess that locals once considered the unassuming rusted doors of this memorial the very gates of hell. The text on the left side sums it up best: ‘During the Soviet occupation the state security agency /KGB/ imprisoned, tortured, killed and morally humiliated its victims in this building.’ Once used by the police, the city is now considering creating a KGB museum in the building’s cellar.
