Latvian National Theatre

  Kronvalda bulvāris 2      (+371) 67 00 63 00     more than a year ago
This massive eclectic-style building, which is easily recognised by the Atlas-like men on either side of its entrance, was built in 1902 as Riga’s second theatre. Latvia’s independence was proclaimed here in November of 1918 and it officially became the fledgling nation’s national theatre a year later. Its first director was Latvia’s legendary playwright and poet, Rainis. The building was completely renovated in 2004 and still hosts regular performances by the Latvian National Theatre.
