Sacral Art Museum [Sakralinis Muziejus]

Sacral Art Museum
Located inside the former presbytery of the Lithuanian priest Teofilis Matulionis (1873-1962), this intriguing little museum celebrates both the life of the aforementioned gentleman as well as the Roman Catholic Church in Lithuania in general. Matulionis was controversial figure during Soviet times who spent time in prison and who died in mysterious circumstances. Some of his personal possessions can be found here including a cross on a necklace made from bread. The rest of the exhibits include many splendid religious artefacts (don’t miss the wooden crosses in a bottle) as well as a room containing some fine religious-themed 19th-century wood carvings. The attic also holds temporary art exhibitions. As for an A4 sheet in English about the exhibits when you arrive.

Admission free.
