Shopping

Just about everything you’ll need to buy can be found on the one central strip neatly dividing the old and new parts of the city between Laisvės and Vilniaus. Find souvenir shops and stalls full of amber and linen scattered along Vilniaus, and during the summer a large collection of outdoor traders on Laisvės selling everything from sunglasses to second-hand books. Kaunas quickly followed Vilnius with the construction of several large indoor shopping centres, which whether you like the politics that goes with them or not are if nothing else a welcome addition during the freezing winter months. Be warned that Western goods, especially clothes, are criminally expensive.
