Founded in 1923, the Vytautas Magnus University Botanical Gardens to give it its full name covers an area of 62.5 hectares of former estate land and is divided into five sections, namely medicinal plants, plant pathology, dendrology, pomology and floriculture. Featuring around 7,000 separate species, the gardens are about 1km south of the Lithuanian Aviation Museum. To get there take bus N°7 or 12 from Kaunas Castle, or minibus N°49 from Birštono.
