Mega Aquarium

Mega Aquarium
At 10 metres in height, the extraordinary aquarium inside the city’s Mega shopping centre is the tallest marine aquarium in the Baltic States, which when you also find out it’s 11 metres in length and four metres wide really does make it a huge fish tank. Taking pride of place in the central part of the building the now infamous aquarium is worthy of a trip to the Mega on its own. Holding 170,000 litres of water and therefore necesitating massively thick, 30cm glass, the aquarium contains over 30 different kinds of fish from the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean Sea, in total numbering some 800 tropical fish and six sharks. The coral comes from South Africa and the whole thing took three months to create with the help of specialists from around the world. Feeding time takes place daily at 10:00 and 17:00 with a further feeding on Saturdays at 13:00. There’s also the opportunity if you’re lucky to see divers swimming around inside from time to time.
