Janina Monkutė-Marks was born in the Lithuanian town of Radviliškis before WWII, receiving her education in and around the Kėdainiai region. In 1944 she moved to Germany before heading off to Chicago in 1950 where she settled and took up the life of a professional artist. This combined museum and gallery contains the bulk of her work, which she donated to the town in 2000, and features such colourful examples as examples of her 1960s flirtation with pop art to a collection of more conservative, yet extremely bright rugs and tapestries. The gallery also organised temporary exhibits of modern Lithuanian art.
