The classic Lithuanian market experience, this predominantly outdoor affair is the place to come for exotic Chinese underpants, ill-fitting sweaters and, towards the back, meat, fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants. It’s also been known for a second-hand market to show up here, plus the whole area is surrounded by shops and bars with real character. The older part of the market at the back, in Turgaus Aikštė, is just like stepping back into the past complete with imposing Germanic buildings and metal telegraph poles that must be at least 70 years old. Worth a look around even if you don’t need to buy anything.
