Unveiled in 1997 and the work of  R. Midvikis, this rather stern-looking monument honours the man credited with writing the first book published in the Lithuanian language, the 1547 Catechisms. Mathematicians will quickly spot that the statue was placed here to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the book. The square in which it stands is now very popular with the city’s teenage skateboarding community.
