Jonas Krikščiūnas-Jovaras (1880-1967), the Lithuanian poet and book smuggler during the years that the Lithuanian language was banned between 1864 and 1904, lived in this house from 1946 until his death. Now a museum celebrating both him and the literature of the region, the ever-growing archives contain over 3,000 manuscripts and other literary-related objects providing an insight into the lives and works of scores of Lithuanian authors. Very much a work in progress and sadly lacking in English, this is an interesting diversion for anyone with an interest in literature, but needs the help of a translator to understand any of it.
Admission 4/2Lt.
