B. Kasperavičienė’s bizarre 1978 statue of two metal pelicans frolicking in a fountain is one of several intriguing works of public art along Vilniaus. Arguably the most famous of them all, the two feathered friends are actually lovers who, so the story goes, lost their way when flying in a large squadron of pelicans and, being thirsty and seeing a puddle, flew down to quench their thirsts and were turned to stone by a wicked witch.
