While it only offers a through-the-trees view of the Castle, the quiet lakeside location, pleasant atmosphere and monster portions more than make up for its shortcomings. There are some simple, honest, generous and very pleasing meals here although the kibinai are best sampled elsewhere. Outdoor seating is an added bonus during the summer. Nothing to write home about, but a more than adequate glimpse into the world as experienced by the average Lithuanian diner.
I had two wonderful meals at Markizas in 2007. On Easter Sunday I also enjoyed quite a lively time with the staff in the evening. I found the family-owned atmosphere to make it have the old-country feel that I was looking for all over Eastern Europe. I would highly recommend Markizas to anyone traveling through Lithuania because the food and service were both excellent!
