Arriving by train
Slightly less trains than buses run from Vilnius to Trakai daily. Starting and ending around the same time as the buses, trains take about 40 minutes to make the journey and cost buttons. Several more trains run each day between Vilnius, Varėna and Marcinkonys, stopping at Senieji Trakai on the way. Trains along both these routes stop at the Jewish memorial site at Paneriai, providing the option of combining two daytrips in one. To get to Trakai by train from Kaunas, you can travel via Lentvaris or Vilnius. Journey times depend on what train you take from Kaunas. Trakai’s train station is located just south of the bus station and is equally lacking in facilities. Taxis are usually parked outside when trains arrive (see Arriving by bus for more). The main sights can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes.
