In its glory this mansion, built on land formerly occupied by the local Tatar community, belonged to the prominent Tiškevičius (Polish, Tyszkiewicz) family who lived in it until 1939. Built in the 19th century in a neo-Renaissance style, the palace itself is closed, but the grounds, designed by the prominent French landscape gardener Edouard André (1840-1911), have become something of a tourist attraction. During the summer this is a prime spot for a picnic or horse riding. A walk around the palace grounds is free. To get there in good weather, catch the passenger ship from the Castle and be sure to mention you want to get off at Užutrakis. Alternatively, a taxi will set you back somewhere in the region of 30Lt.
