Vilnius | Restaurants & Cafés | Fine dining

The two-in-one venue should please everybody, which is good because everybody comes to Trakai at some time. There's both a pizerria and a posh restaurant, and both have a lovely lake-side location with stunning castle views. The food in the pizzerria is casually decent and the posh tucker is worth forking out for - it ranges from rather good to divine and can be accompanied with superb wines, sommelier ceromony and all. We were impressed with the prawn wearing a waistcoat of angel hair, the mussel napping in biscuit-prosciutto mash, the fish, the steak and even the sheep testicles. Wonderful location, wonderful food and, if you appreciate finer things, worth the admittedly high prices. [...]

This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s an experience. It’s a luxurious and adventure-packed holiday for your soul, your senses and your mind. As one pocketeer put it, it’s like being in a movie. A fantasy, we’d suggest. The interior is modern and creative, service is [...]

Despite the name, the focus of this fine restaurant is not just French. The menu now features an array of tempting creations with many and varied Mediterranean influences, such as Spanish and Italian. There has, however, been no variation of the stubborn dedication to gourmet quality and exqui [...]

Using a dazzling array of fresh meat and fish from all over the world, this truly exemplary restaurant close to the Seimas has set new levels in taste and service in the city, putting most of the gourmet offerings in Old Town to shame. Situated on two floors inside something reminiscent of a spaceship, expect the full royalty treatment and a menu fit for a king. From soup to nuts, every dish is prepared to please the eyes and the palate, all accompanied by the sort of wine list rarely experienced this far east. The service offers the perfect antidote to a grey afternoon in a stuffy office or musty museum, leaving the diner with a feeling of pure satisfaction, albeit at the expense of a minor dent in the bank account. To get the best from this place, which is set above a busy dual carriageway, wait until the sun goes down, at least until the roadworks below have been completed. [...]

It has that slick-austere style that its namesake, Sophia Loren, exuded. It has prices that she would struggle to afford. But what really matters is that the food is a breakthrough – inventive, creative and unexpected. We had a chicken pie floating in boletus soup and a sea bass in nettl [...]

Like dining in a grand, posh aviary. The atrium restaurant is dripping with plants, and there’s plenty of exotic birds and peacocks strutting about. (Most of whom are too old and soft to survive in the wild.) Food is very good. But it’s not as good as all the vacuous, gushing, dimwit reviews in local papers; or the chocking, stratospheric prices; tend to suggest. Service is, appropriately, superb. Basically, this is a place to pose, and is one of the few reliable options for occasions when impressing someone is an absolute must. [...]

What were they thinking? Actually, we know exactly what they were thinking because the local papers were full of stories about how this place aims to be one of the top 100 restaurants in the world. While there's no chance of that, the food here is actually quite good if you can stop laughing long enough to eat any of it. The hilarity stems from over the top Russian style kitsch. There are fish tanks, fountains, fairy lights, flat screen televisions and lots of other nonsense that results from lots of money and no taste. Good for a laugh. [...]
