Taxis
Depending on such variables as time of day, type of car, how you ordered it and your horoscope sign, be prepared to pay anything from 5-25Lt for a ride within Old Town. Taxis are considerably cheaper if called in advance rather than grabbed in the street, although you’re essentially at the mercy of the driver once you’ve shut the door. Drunken foreigners who've argued with disreputable drivers in the past have been on occasion punched in the face and even attacked with a knife, although we should stress that the great majority of Lithuanian taxi drivers are honest, hard working people like everybody else. The least you can do is make sure the meter is running before you set off. Always ensure that your hotel hasn’t got a deal with a taxi company, a ‘service’ that can cost up to three times the going rate. Prices listed are for standard journeys within the city.
