Thanks to the Cyrillic alphabet, women’s toilets are often marked with the Ж (zena), and gentlemen’s with the M (maz). Toilet quality remains dubious in many places, with Turkish toilets still the norm even in the most surprisingly upmarket establishments. You may feel a fool for carrying spare toilet paper around, but as feelings go it’s much better than the one you may feel if you’re ever caught short.
