Skopje's relatively recent strict opening hour licensing regime has forced many bars and clubs to close before the party even starts, taking much of the fun out of the night, and placing the city well behind more party-minded capitals in the region. Long before bedtime, even during Friday and Saturday nights, the city is often as lively as it was in 1958.
