St. Dimitri

During Ottoman rule, Skopje’s original cathedral was located near this spot, and although the present St. Dimitri church is from 1886 and relatively new, it remains important, as it became the temporary cathedral after the Bulgarians burnt down the Virgin Mary Cathedral at the end of World War II. The otherwise unremarkable interior has benches lining the walls and an elegant staircase winding up around a pillar.
