Towering over Skopje and topped with the huge Millennium Cross that caused considerable controversy when it was built in 2000, mount Vodno is 1,066 metres high and is criss-crossed by marked hiking paths. Fit travellers can walk up from the city to the peak in a few hours and see the 66-metre high cross up close.
As far as I'm concerned, Mount Vodno, as you call it, it's part of Skopje, not out of Skopje. Its within walking distance from the city, lovely forest and beautiful view. The clean air and fantastic flora make it even more appealing. I was born and bred in Skopje, my parents still live in Skopje and every time I visit, we always go to Vodno!
EDITOR: We fully agree it's wonderful - it's just not walking distance from most city centre hotels.
