Rex Bar

  215 Shankill Rd      (+44) (0)28 9024 1698     more than a year ago
Dating back to 1865, the Shankill's oldest public bar is steeped in the history and tradition of the area. Hollywood hotshots Vince Vaughan, Tim Robbins and Tim's missus Susan Sarandon are among its international imbibers - no doubt all keen to experience the real Belfast. The bar sits beside a large mural depicting the signing of the Ulster Covenant, and the untouched interior is festooned with flags, t-shirts and curios paying testament to its distinctly Unionist locale. Make no mistake, though, all tourists are welcome no matter their political persuasion. And if you fancy a neck-tingling tale to accompany your pint, ask amiable owner Mark about the resident ghost.

Visited the Rex Bar while working in Belfast 3 weeks ago. Was made really welcome by the lads in the bar and a friendlier set you'd be hard to meet to the extent that I ended up with one hell of a hangover in the morning. All the Best Lads looking forward to coming back over.

why would it be a very bad idea? the rex bar gets many many visitors from all over ireland and around the globe it's one of the most friendly bars within belfast the staff are brilliant and make all visitors welcome. i don't think JD2000 has a clue what he she is talking about. I've visited the rex bar numerous times and have always been made welcome and have meet many from belfast and dublin within their walls and the locals treated everyone with respect. The bar and staff get a Two Thumbs up from Me.John

Hi there. The Rex Bar is on the Shankill Road which is served by the #11 Metro bus (Belfast has no trams) departing every 10-15 mins from the city centre - ask an inspector at the side of the City Hall for directions to the stop. Alternatively, you can take a City Sightseeing bus tour and hop off at the bar. Click our web banner and buy a discounted ticket online. As for beer types, ring the bar directly for this info.
